While there are few, if any, conclusions that should be drawn based on the success of any player or unit in drills, what will be notable are the alignments and repetitions given to certain players.Specifically, the lineup that receives the very first rep on both sides of the football is worth examining, as it gives an indication as to how the coaching staff sees the starting lineup shaking out. Here are some of the takeaways from today’s practice.AbsencesFirst up are the players absent or not practicing. Three players were not in attendance on Tuesday: safety Josh Jones (whose absence and displeasure was reported Tuesday morning) along with tight end Marcedes Lewis and rookie edge rusher Greg Roberts. There is no explanation known as yet regarding the latter two players’ absence. There were also three players who were not participating in practice, but who were in attendance, two of whom are starters. Wide receiver Davante Adams and defensive tackle Mike Daniels joined running back Tra Carson in the non-practicing group.OffensePerhaps the biggest question mark on the entire offense this season will be the right guard position. With Billy Turner coming over from Denver in free agency and Elgton Jenkins arriving via a second-round draft pick, the Packers have options at that spot. However Aaron Rodgers Jersey , it was Turner who took the first rep in that position, lining up between Corey Linsley and Bryan Bulaga. Meanwhile, with Adams out it is instructive to see which of the team’s young receivers would get the first run with the starters. It should surprise nobody that Geronimo Allison was one of the two wideouts on the field with the team in 21 personnel (two running backs and one tight end). However, Marquez Valdes-Scantling was the other, signifying that he still holds a lead over Jake Kumerow and fellow second-year pros Equanimeous St. Brown and J’Mon Moore for the third spot at the time being.DefenseA complete reload at the safety position and comments from general manager Brian Gutekunst on the subject have suggested that Tramon Williams will be headed back to cornerback from safety this season. However, that transition appears to be complete, rather than just a move back to a more versatile slot corner alignment. Indeed, Williams joined Jaire Alexander as the two starters on the boundary as the Packers’ defense opened up in a base 3-4 alignment. Joining them were the two new safety additions, Adrian Amos and rookie Darnell Savage, Jr.One particular reason for some optimism on Tuesday was the fact that oft-injured cornerback Kevin King was participating fully in practice. For now, it appears that the team is preparing for him to be their third corner behind Williams and Alexander Randall Cobb Color Rush Jersey , but a full offseason workload can only help him as he tries to maintain good health throughout the 2019 season. On the front seven, there were two interesting items to note. First is the fact that with Daniels sitting out, the Packers elected to move Kenny Clark off the nose to the 3-technique position, with Montravius Adams in the middle and Dean Lowry at his traditional 5-tech spot. Clark has primarily played nose when the Packers stick to a three-man line, so this was a bit of a surprise. Still, the team is likely to line up most frequently with two linemen (in nickel or dime), so this may not be as significant a development as it appears at first. The other notable item up front is that the team lined up with the Smiths as the starters on opposite edges. Za’Darius Smith lined up on the left side opposite Bryan Bulaga on the first play with Preston Smith on the right side. The Packers have a day off from practice on Wednesday but will return to the Don Hutson Center for a closed practice on Thursday, May 23rd. Their next open practice will take place on Wednesday, May 29th. Over a two week span, Acme Packing Company takes a look at each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provides grades and insight on how they performed in the 2018 season. Today we examine the inside linebacker group. The Green Bay Packers added four players to their inside linebacker group in the 2018 season, a group that consisted of one draft pick www.thepackersfanshop.com/Corey-Linsley-Jersey , one undrafted rookie, one journeyman, and one last minute veteran. All were added with specific roles in mind, and to varying degrees, they filled their roles. None stood out as stars or immediate impact players. Still, with Blake Martinez leading the NFC in tackles, role players were pivotal.Oren BurksHow Acquired: Third-round pick in 2018 NFL Draft (No. 88 overall)2018 Stats: 24 tackles (18 solo)Burks came in with some high expectations. A third round pick is generally expected to see the field a fair amount. Burks hurt his shoulder coming out of training camp and did not get a fast start. He managed just four starts through the course of the season. He is a smaller linebacker and the hope was he could be involved in the pass game. If he can stay healthy, then he still have a chance to be a valuable player, but he has not found a way to be an every down player yet.Antonio MorrisonHow Acquired: Trade with Indianapolis Colts (Aug. 26th)2018 Stats: 48 tackles (27 solo)Morrison joined the Packers late in training camp, coming over from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for cornerback Lenzy Pipkins. Morrison started 15 games for the Colts last year and started eight games for the Packers in 2018. He found a role as a run-stuffer in the Packers’ defense, but was not an every down player. He managed to help around the line of scrimmage and clean up plays in the run game.Korey ToomerHow Acquired: Signed as unrestricted free agent (Sept. 3)2018 Stats: 3 solo tacklesToomer was added just after final cuts for his ability to play special teams. He did see 12 snaps on the defensive side of the ball Jaire Alexander Jersey , but was mostly cast as a special teams player. He had a limited role on the team and was eventually released in late November.James CrawfordHow acquired: Undrafted rookie free agent signing2018 Stats: 9 tackles (8 solo), one fumble recoveryAfter playing in the second halves of preseason games on defense, Crawford ended up making the team thanks in large part to a dominant special teams performance in the fourth and final exhibition game. He became a core part of Ron Zook’s units, and although they were arguably the worst special teams in the league, Crawford was not necessarily a reason for it. He lined up on the field for over 70% of the team’s special teams snaps, and the front office may view him as a core special teams player moving forward into 2019.
